Photographs documenting Joe Wukash Grocery from the Austin Files collection. Joe Wukasch was born in 1892 in Serbin, Texas into a community of Wendish Texans. After moving to Austin in 1910, he opened a small grocery store on Guadalupe at 23rd Street. In May, 1918, he was called to duty and became the cook for his infantry division after the regular cook was killed.
