Black and white image of dance students from the Annette Duval School of Dance in costume. Annette Duval founded and ran a popular regional chain of dance studios from 1930 into the 1970s. The school taught many different types of dancing to toddlers, children, and adults, and proved popular: By 1955, it had 4 schools in Austin and 17 in other Texas cities. Students at the school performed for various parties and school events and, during World War II, in programs for enlisted soldiers and wounded service members. Annette Duval served as vice president of the Texas Association of Teachers of Dancing in 1948 and taught dancing at the group’s state convention in multiple years.
