Scope and Content:
St. Edward's University Austin Documentary Photography Project Collection consists primarily of digital photographs documenting various facets of the Austin area community as selected by the student photographers. In addition to the photographs, project statements from each of the photographers summarize their experience interviewing and documenting their subjects of interest. Themes represented in the photographs include housing and urban development, particularly on Burnet Road, changing demographics, arts and culture, funerary practices including natural burial, and youth addiction recovery. Collection highlights from the Spring 2019 documentary course include Ariah Alba's photographs documenting Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, and Islam in the Austin area, and Kaitlyn Dawson's documentation of independent theaters such as The Salvage Vanguard and Hyde Park theaters. Collection highlights from the 2020 documentary courses include Maia Medel's photographs of people experiencing homelessness in South Austin, and documentation of the COVID-19 pandemic from various community perpspectives taken by Brianna Garcia and Haydon Mayer, and Sam Stone's photographs of The Austin Wildlife Rescue (AWR).

Born-digital materials are integrated into their corresponding series based on the creators. Some intellectual reorganization of the materials into folders was undertaken to allow the materials to be easily integrated into this system of arrangement. The material was ingested into the digital repository in original order.
